Other Ways Your Support Helps

The Annual Fund underpins so much of our core day to day work here at The Courtauld. Annual Fund donations have supported a huge variety of important projects and activities, including improving our libraries and helping to facilitate our public lecture series.

The Annual Fund ensures that we continue to provide students and alumni with access to world-class learning resources, such as our specialist libraries. In 2016/2017 we were able to add resources to our library that would normally be beyond our budget, thus further supporting and enhancing the quality of The Courtauld’s teaching, learning and research.

Notable purchases last year included:

  • A five-volume resource on the painting and sculpture of Jasper Johns.
  • A catalogue raisonné on the work of late 19th and early 20th Century Swiss artist Ferdinand Hodler.
  • Access to the Women’s Magazine and Vogue Italia archives.

Public Lectures

We are committed to widening access to art historical research, debate and discussion and the Annual Fund helps to support our diverse public lecture series. We bring together Courtauld experts and distinguished guest speakers to share insights, exchange ideas and make advanced research accessible to a wide, interdisciplinary audience.

Our Research Forum offers a diverse calendar of public lectures throughout the year, which push the boundaries of creativity and debate in the visual arts. These are free of charge and open to all.  Highlights from the past year have included:

RESFEST, the highlight of our public lecture series calendar. RESFEST is our annual festival of art historical research – an action-packed evening of lightning talks, performances and exhibits that celebrate art history, curating and conservation. Annual Fund support will help to ensure that we continue to offer a rich programme of lectures to the general public.

Our year-long Gender Matters series, led by the Courtauld Association Committee Chair, Sonnet Stanfill. This series explores the lack of gender balance in arts leadership. With an alumni profile that is 70 percent female and a reputation for educating many of the world’s most prominent arts leaders, The Courtauld is a fitting host for these debates. Panellists have included a mix of high profile cultural figures, as well as leaders from different fields to encourage diverse perspectives.
