Stay and Study

The Library is providing a stay and study service so Courtauld students are able to book study space at Vernon Square while maintaining social distancing to reduce the spread of coronavirus. Booking a study space is quick and easy: you check our availability through our online calendar – you book the session that suits you – we email you to confirm your booking – you can arrive any time during your appointment.  Due to the limited space available, this service is not open to external visitors.

You can find more information about Stay and study in the FAQs below. If you need assistance, contact us.

I am not a Courtauld student or staff member – can I use the Book Library?

No. At the moment the library is closed to all users. When we are able to re-open we will only be able to offer space to Courtauld Students in order to make the library a safe place to study.

Can I use the Book Library during the current coronavirus outbreak?

Following the Mayor of London’s declaration of a major incident and temporary closure of the Library we are unable to offer Stay and Study space within the Library but you can book a study space in the Library Study Room (including PC space) and in Seminar rooms 7, 8 and 9.

Do I need to book a study space?

Yes. Please book a study space as there is limited seating in order to maintain social distancing and to keep everyone safe.

How far in advance can I book a study space?

You can book a study space up to 7 days in advance. The booking system shows the available appointments on days when Vernon Square is open.

How soon can I book study space?

The booking system shows the next available appointment.

Can I book a group study space?

No. UK Government guidance states that, “Students must use the study spaces independently and must not gather in study spaces, unless as part of an in-person, scheduled seminar or tutorial.” We are sorry that we cannot offer students space to study with your friends while these restrictions are in place

Can I arrive early or late for my study session?

You can arrive any time during your study session, but you will need to leave at the end of your booking so the spaces can be cleaned before the next session.

What precautions is The Courtauld taking to keep me safe whilst I study?

You can find details of how The Courtauld is managing the risk of COVID-19 and keeping our students, and staff safe on our Coronavirus: updates and FAQs web pages.

Do I need to wear a face covering during my study session?

Please wear a face covering at all times while you are at Vernon Square unless you are medically exempt. Please check The Courtauld’s Coronavirus: updates and FAQs web pages for the latest information on what you need to do when you arrive at Vernon Square.

Can I browse the shelves?

No. The shelves are not accessible at the moment in order to avoid spreading coronavirus. When our Click and collect service and Scan and deliver service are able to resume please use these to request any books you want to use and to request scans of book chapters and journal articles.

Can I use the PCs in the Library?

Stay and Study is currently offered in the Library Study Room and seminar rooms only. PCs are available in the Library Study Room.

Can I copy, print and scan in the Library?

You can use the multi-functional device in the Library Study Room to copy or scan items you have brought with you or to print out material.

Can I borrow books while I am in the Library?

When the Library reopens please request any books you want to use through our Click and collect service as we have to limit access to the shelves to avoid spreading coronavirus. Alternatively, you can request scans of book chapters and journal articles through our Scan and deliver service.

Can I renew my loans while I am in the Library?

Please renew your loans online to ensure social distancing and keep everyone safe.

Can I return books while I am in the Library?

We have a book drop-box in reception at Vernon Square however we are not advising any students to travel to the library during this time unless it is to use the study spaces. All due dates for books will be rolled forward until we are able to open the Library once more.

How do I access the Image Libraries?
