Thesis: Tracing Puerto Rican Graphic Arts: Bridging Workshops and Crossing Borders, 1940s-1970s

My thesis focuses on the work of Puerto Rican graphic artists from the 1940s to 1970s. This period was not only marked by profound political transitions but also, by the return of young artists who having studied abroad would closely work together to form the ‘Generación del 50.’ The research will consider how their varying cross-cultural experiences, particularly in the United States and Mexico during and after the Great Depression, contributed to their work and commitment to social-political issues and discourse.
