The Courtauld Short Courses 2021 – Online

The Courtauld is the foremost centre in Britain for the study of art history, of conservation and curation and enjoys an international reputation. Through our Short Courses department, The Courtauld’s scholarly expertise is shared with everyone interested in art and art history. Our programmes cover a global range of historical periods and art-historical themes, and include a variety of formats.

Due to the still considerable uncertainty as to how the coming months will unfold in relation to the Covid-19 health crisis, and the need for continued social distancing, we have decided to run all of our short courses online until the summer.  Where face-to-face teaching and in-person museum and gallery visits look possible again in the spring or summer, elements of these may be re-introduced for those students who are able to join us in London:   course visits may be added as optional extras to our Summer School courses, and in the case of our summer term evening lectures and the Autumn School, in-person courses may be offered in addition to the online courses described in this brochure.  Notwithstanding the return to ‘normality’ we all look forward to, our online teaching and learning is here to stay, so that we can continue to include all those in our teaching who for a variety of reasons cannot join us in London.

Our courses are led by specialists in their field – faculty members, alumni or associates of The Courtauld – who combine scholarly excellence and an enthusiasm for their subject with the ability and willingness to communicate with a non-specialist audience. All you need to take part in, and benefit from our courses, is a passion for the visual arts and for art history, an open mind and a willingness to learn, along with a good command of the English language. Courses are not assessed and while we provide selected texts and other course materials on our Virtual Learning Environment for most parts of the programme, it is up to you how much preparatory and subsequent study you wish to undertake.

At The Courtauld’s Short Courses department, we teach and learn for love of the subject.

All short courses have been programmed by Dr Anne Puetz. Please contact with questions on the scope and content of the courses, for information on registration, payment and technical advice and support.
